Rehabilitation and Hydro-Agricultural Development (N'Débougou IV)

The project aims to boost the agricultural production of small-scale Malian farmers in the N'Débougou zone of the Office du Niger by rehabilitating irrigation schemes to promote sustainable, profitable agriculture and enhance food security. It has two components:

Component I focuses on rehabilitating and constructing infrastructure, including the irrigation system of the N’Débougou scheme (4,200 ha), the Grüber adductor canal, main distributors, drains, and dykes. It also incorporates social infrastructure and environmental measures, including disease prevention and control, as well as improvements in hygiene and sanitation.

Component II consists of the accompanying measures and involves training, capacity building, and strengthening farmers' organisations (OPA) for rice – the main crop in the area – and vegetable farming. It also supports women vegetable gardeners during the cold season, promotes agro-ecological approaches, and introduces a pilot livestock breeding program.

The project indirectly impacts 25,000 ha for total irrigation control and 80,000 ha for drainage, helping rural communities maximise the economic potential of irrigation.
