Municipal Water Supply and Sewage Disposal in Prishtina, Phase III
The rapid growth of the population of the City of Prishtina has led to chronic water shortages. The long-term capacity of the three existing water sources amounts to only 40 million m3/year which will decrease to 36.5 m3/year soon. The annual water production at the time of the project at 45 million m3 exceeded the long-term capacity of the existing water sources.
The Government of Kosovo and the Regional Water Company Prishtina (RWCP) consequently undertook various efforts for the improvement of the water supply and sewerage system in the service area of the RWCP. Among them, this Project, which aimed to provide a cost-efficient, equitable and continuous safe water supply of the population living in the City of Prishtina and the surrounding villages as well as the protection of water resources at Batlava and Badovc Lake. The project contributed to the improvement of the living conditions and to the protection of the scarce water resources.

Projektleistungen
The Project developed an additional potable water source for Prishtina using Gazivoda lake. This increased water supply to 20 million m3/year, thereby covering the water demand from Prishtina beyond 2030. The project entailed two components:
1. Construction of water transport facilities; (FIDIC Red Book) including:
Raw water intake from Iber Channel at Mihaliq.
Gravity pipeline from Mihaliq to the pumping station at Millosheva and pressure main from Millosheva to the water treatment plant Shkabaj.
Raw water pumping station at Millosheva.
Transmission pipes to connect the water treatment plant to the existing reservoirs Shkabaj and Arberia.
Measures to protect the water quality in the Iber Canal.
2. Construction of a water treatment plant Shkabaj. (FIDIC Yellow Book) to include the following elements:
Water treatment plant in Shkabaj (Dual Media Filtration) (design capacity: 700+550 l/s) including balancing reservoir and pumping station to pump the treated water to existing reservoirs Shkabaj and Arberia.
Lagoons for backwash water.
Laboratory, operation room, offices, workshop, social rooms at Shkabaj WTP.
